Crypts, Catacombs and Underground Rome
Overview
Not for the faint of heart! An unusual private guided tour which explores the mysterious Appian Way, Catacombs of St. Callixtus, the Mithraeum and Ancient Basilica of San Clemente which dates back to the 2nd Century AD, and the "Bone Church", last exit for hundreds of deceased Capuchin friars.
We start our Rome catacombs tour with a trip outside the Aurelian Walls which leads down the ancient Appian Way to the Catacombs of Rome. Here you will explore these ancient burial grounds and learn about early christian worship and symbology.
From the catacombs we head back towards the centre and the ancient Basilica of San Clemente. Three distinct layers divulge the fascinating story of this church which dates back to the first century, at which time the structure was a temple dedicated to the Pagan God Mithras. A Christian church was erected on the site in the 4th century, and the Basilica we see today was finished in the year 1120 AD. Returning to the historic center, your guide will accompany you on a visit to the Capuchin Crypt, also known as the "Bone Church". Few attractions in Rome rival this overground crypt, created by friars using bones of their predecessors to adorn the walls and ceilings.
The cost of transportation from your hotel to each site on this tour is not included. 2 or 3 separate taxi rides will suffice, or you can request our limo service for the duration of the tour.

Cancellation Policy
All cancellations must be received in writing. For cancellations with less than 24 hours notice, cancellations should be sent in writing as well as by phone.
Bookings that are cancelled 7 or more days before the scheduled tour departure will be entitled to a full refund, less a 10 Euro cancellation fee per transaction.
No refunds will be given for late cancellations, failure to cancel (no show), or failure to arrive at our tour meeting point by the scheduled departure time.
