No trip to Italy is complete without a visit to Pompeii. This luxury van tour from Rome will show you a city immortalised by a volcanic eruption, followed by lunch and a visit to the crater of Mt. Vesuvius!

Meet your driver at a convenient meeting point in the heart of Rome (details will be provided upon reservation). Once seated comfortably we depart for Pompeii, the once prosperous Roman city which met it's fate in October, AD 79 when Mt. Vesuvius erupted and the entire surrounding area and population was engulfed with burning pyroclastic flow and covered in ash. What you will see is a moment of terror frozen in time, death postures and ruins unchanged from almost 2,000 years ago.

Your expert archaeologist guide will walk you through the ancient streets, whereabouts perfectly conserved ancient bakeries, shops, stalls, private and communal residences, public baths and brothels remain. You will see plaster casts of the unfortunate Pompeiians who were immortalized on that tragic day.

Next up comes "Pizza by the meter" Neapolitan lunch which will boost your energy levels to the max ahead of your Mt. Vesuvius volcano trek. Your driver will accompany you as far as vehicles are allowed.

At this point you can take the leisurely hike for about 20 minutes, enjoying stunning views of the Bay of Naples from nearly 1,300 meters above sea level. Your reward at the top? A look directly inside the crater of this sleeping giant that brought instant devastation to Pompeii. Lucky for us, today the only signs of life from the crater are a bit of steam and a slight sulphuric odor.

As your afternoon winds down, you'll join your driver once again for the return journey to Rome.
