“Heart of Rome & the Colosseum: Private Tour” is perhaps the only way to relive over 2,500 years of history in just 4 hours on our fully private tour of Rome’s ancient ruins and most famous monuments. We recall the colourful stories of emperors, gladiators, Caesars and slaves, with a focus on the Coliseum, Roman Forum, Campidoglio, and Campus Martius. This privately guided experience is a wonderful introduction to the history and origins of ancient Rome.
We begin the tour with Rome’s greatest engineering accomplishment – the Coliseum. Once inside we will wander around the amphitheatre on several levels and learn about the history of the bloody and violent games which took place on the arena floor. We then change gears and walk up ancient Via Sacra to the Roman Forum. Here, you will see the more civilized side of ancient Rome. The beautiful architecture therein has inspired countless architects in the history of our world. Understand why the Roman Empire became so powerful, and why it eventually collapsed.
A few steps away from the Capitoline Hill, known locally as “Campidoglio”, and Michelangelo’s piazza, enjoy stunning views of ancient Rome and the grand history all around. From there, a lovely stroll takes us to Piazza Navona and the Fountain of the Four Rivers by Bernini. Borromini’s Church of St. Agnes towers above it, therefore we relate the great rivalry between these two artists which is supposedly evident in their architecture on Piazza Navona… Our next port of call are the beautiful waterfalls which cascade over Gods, men, and mythological beasts at the Trevi Fountain where you will learn about the abundance of spring water and magnificent fountains in Rome, Roman aqueducts, and then of course you will hurl your coins into the water and have a gelato to celebrate your future trips to the Eternal City! Close nearby, we walk on to the once-pagan Pantheon – today it’s a Catholic Church. The dome and oculus will amaze and inspire, it’s a masterpiece of engineering which has stood intact for over 2,000 years.
Meeting point info will be sent in booking confirmation e-mail. For security reasons, backpacks, rucksacks, large handbags, luggage etc. are banned inside the Coliseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill.
